DC Villages Advocacy & Lobbying Workshop
April 9 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

DC Villages Collaborative (DCVC) is hosting its third informative and interactive Advocacy Workshop designed to equip Villages and aging advocates with the tools, confidence, and shared language needed to influence policy at a critical moment for aging in the District. This timely Advocacy Workshop is designed to prepare for the 2026 policy and political changes ahead and how they affects our Village network.
As our City moves toward the November 2026 elections, important shifts are on the horizon including changes in DC Council and Mayoral leadership and the implementation of ranked choice voting for the first time in District elections. At the same time, the District’s annual Spring budget cycle will determine funding priorities for aging services, DACL support, housing, transportation, and the programs that make aging in community possible.
Why This Workshop Matters
Village leaders and members represent one of the most civically engaged and reliable voting blocs in the District. Understanding how the budget and election systems work empowers our community to advocate with clarity, credibility, and one unified voice.
In a year of structural changes — new ballots, leadership turnover, and shifting priorities – informed engagement is essential. This workshop ensures that DC’s Village movement is prepared, proactive, and positioned to protect and advance the interests of older adults across the city.
Who Should Attend
This workshop is open to everyone in the DCVC community – not just advocacy committee members.
You should attend if you are a:
- Village leader or board member
- Staff person or volunteer
- Engaged Village member
- Partner invested in aging equity in DC
If you care about strengthening Villages and advancing equity for older adults, this session is for you! If you cannot attend in person, the session will be recorded and supporting materials will be distributed via email following the meeting.
