Ross Hamory had a 35 year career at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) where he started as a Personnel Management Intern shortly after graduating from college and retired as part of the Senior Executive Service. His various staff and management positions took him to numerous postings throughout the U.S, and the world, including Seattle, Denver, Atlanta, Brussels and Singapore, where he was Director of the FAA’s Asia Pacific Office. Already living in the DC area at the time and working as Director of the Office of International Aviation, after 9/11 he returned to aviation security as Director of Operations and subsequently served on the staff of the Secretary of Transportation as the department’s Director of Security and Intelligence prior to his retirement.
After retiring to Washington, North Carolina, Mr. Hamory joined the board and served as President of Downtown Washington on the Waterfront, a Main Street non-profit organization. As president he led a community-wide decision-making process, which resulted in turning vacant, city-owned property into a waterfront park and performance venue. Grants and City funding were obtained to build a performance pavilion, public restrooms, a public pier, additional boat slips and a boater’s facility with showers and restrooms.
In 2017, Mr. Hamory and his wife moved to Mount Pleasant to be closer to their grandchildren. He has served as Treasurer and a board member of the Mount Pleasant Village since 2020.
